Remote sensing applications in detecting oil spills to preserve the marine life

An Oil spill is due to contamination of seawater due to an oil pour. It can happen due to an accident or due to oil release. Being the most important energy sources in the world, Oil is transported through ships across the oceans to different countries. IT is also transported through pipelines via land.

This transport which provides numerous benefits to the mankind has also resulted in several accidents in the past while transferring the oil to vessels and due to breakage of pipelines. These spills contaminate the coasts and estuaries and can cause serious health problems to human beings.

Integration of preventive measures becomes the major priority. With application of remote sensing the satellites can fetch for the oil spill or leakage and prevent any disasters. This computer model uses current, ocean and weather forecasts, also obtained by remote sensing.
