Cancer endocrinology

Endocrine disorders range from more common conditions such as diabetes or hypothyroidism to the rare diseases such as adrenocortical carcinoma or pheochromocytoma. Study of endocrine disorders has been challenging because efforts to create cell lines have had limited success and mouse models often demonstrate fundamental differences from human tissues. Over the past decade, 3-dimensional models have allowed researchers to overcome many of the barriers of long-term in vitro cultures of human tissues. In this collection, we will highlight the use of 3-dimensional models, such as organoids and organotypic cultures, to study endocrine development and disease. We welcome papers describing innovative basic and translational research using 3-dimensional models to characterize endocrine systems.
