Inner ear hair cells

The hair bundles develop into the final mature structure in a multi-step, precisely determined order. Malfunction of this process will lead to deficits in the development or maintenance of hair bundles and eventually cause deafness. The details of this process largely remain elusive and await further exploration. The MET machinery that resides at the tips of shorter stereocilia is the Holy Grail in the hearing research field, and we are just starting to learn more about it recently. In this Research Topic, we will welcome the submission of papers that will advance our understanding of how the development, maintenance, and function of hair bundles are regulated. Potential topics of interests include:
1. Molecular mechanisms underlying stereocilia development and maintenance.
2. Molecular mechanisms underlying kinocilia development, maintenance, and retraction.
3. Molecular mechanisms underlying cuticular plate development and maintenance.
4. Molecular mechanisms underlying PCP establishment and maintenance.
5. Transcriptomics and proteomics of hair bundles and cuticular plate.
6. Molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying MET.
7. New methods for hair bundles and MET study.

A standard EDITORIAL TRACKING SYSTEM is utilized for manuscript submission, review, editorial processing and tracking which can be securely accessed by the authors, reviewers and editors for monitoring and tracking the article processing.
